About
In October 1986, Claude Simon travelled to the Soviet Union to take part, along with fourteen other Western cultural players, in an international forum designed to reflect on "the objectives of humanity in the third millennium on a global scale". The participants went from official receptions to sightseeing tours, before being received in the Kremlin by the new head of state, Mikhail Gorbachev.
From this trip, which inevitably turns into a fiasco, Claude Simon draws a short, sharp tale, in the form of a buffoonish parade of false pretenses, grotesque grandiloquence and, above all, an inflation of useless, empty words.
Marie Vialle, associate artist at Paris?s famous Centquatre, is renowned for her work with writers such as Olivia Rosenthal and Pascal Quignard, and places questions of language, intimacy and otherness at the heart of her work.
