About
NEW DREAMS
We celebrate July 14th more than August 4th 1789? and yet? it was on that night that the brand-new assembly voted to put an end to privileges for the few, and the beginnings of equality for all. For all, really?
Based on Bertrand Guillot?s brilliant little book retracing this immense moment in French history, Hugues Duchêne delivers a breathtaking show of pedagogy, intelligence and humor. Seated on all four sides of the stage, spectators discover the nobility, the clergy and the third estate, taken to task by the deputies, all played by the incredible Maxime Pambet: it's like being there!
Until the show comes to a halt, and the historical exaltation is followed by the real lives of Hugues and Maxime, and their sudden problems as thirtysomethings. In 2025, then, what is privilege? What does it mean to be a good man?
