DAY 1: AMIENS

Take a moving journey into the heart of the Somme battlefields – a day spent understanding a page in world history.
DAY 2: THE REMEMBRANCE CIRCUIT
Breakfast at your hotel
10.30 am Your accompanying guide welcomes you to the “Historial de la Grande Guerre” in Péronne. A visit to the museum which bears unique witness to the mindset and to the daily life of the First World War.
12.30 pm Lunch at the Historial.
2.30 pm Accompanied visit to the sites of remembrance. Three sites to choose from: the French Chapel of Remembrance at Rancourt, the memorials at Longueval (visit to the South-African Museum), Pozières and Thiepval, major sites for British remembrance, and the new Thiepval Museum which was inaugurated to mark the Centenary; the Ulster Tower Memorial, a strange Northern Irish monument, and the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel where a statue of a moose overlooks the trenches. Visit to the impressive “Lochnagar Crater” in La Boisselle (blast hole)
5.30 pm: Return to Péronne and end of the day’s visits.
OPTION 2: THE SOMME ESTUARY
The Somme Estuary is a magical place of outstanding natural beauty visited by over two thirds of European birds. Hundreds of species come here to rest during their migration.... An amazing landscape that is bound to touch your sensibilities.
DAY 2: THE SOMME ESTUARY
Breakfast at your hotel
10.45 am: Train journey on the “Baie de Somme” Railway leaving from Le Crotoy Station. You will meander to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme along the rail network known as the ”bains de mer” or Sea Bathing Route and discover the Somme estuary.
12.30 pm Lunch in a restaurant at Saint-Firmin-les-Crotoy (Restaurant Logis).
3 pm: Guided tour of the Marquenterre bird reserve located in the heart of the Somme Estuary natural reserve. Migrating birds break their journey for a few hours or months in this protected area made up of sand dunes, forest and marshland. An opportunity to observe the wonderful world of birdlife.
5 pm: End of the visit.
