Slowdown, promotion of slow tourism
As part of its participation in the Interreg Europe programme, Amiens Métropole Tourist Office is working with several European regions to promote sustainable and responsible tourism through the Slowdown project.
As a result of numerous regional, national and European initiatives to support tourism development, disparities have emerged. While some sites are coping with overtourism and the environmental and social problems that go with it, others are failing to fully exploit their tourism potential and opportunities.
In response, the transnational Interreg Slowdown initiative has been launched. Its aim is to encourage sustainable tourism and promote environmentally-friendly travel practices. The programme brings together a number of European participants, including Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Ireland, Finland and France, to encourage responsible and sustainable tourism.
At the first meeting of the programme's partners in Hungary, participants were able to benefit from each other's experience in developing and promoting sustainable tourism.
