Show No.
About
Starring Brice Hillairet in the title role, this crazy rock musical tells the story of a transgender singer from East Berlin to Kansas. A total spectacle that thrills audiences.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch was a worldwide success. No doubt because this astonishing piece, combining various art forms and musical styles, also tells a flamboyant and deeply moving story. Part concert, part cabaret, part unvarnished confession, part tale of twists and turns, this sung-and-spoken epic unfolds the chaotic life of a transgender singer struggling to overcome hardship and heartbreak.
In a clever mise en abyme, Hedwig, accompanied by her band The Angry Inch, becomes the singer and narrator of her own story. She recalls her childhood locked up in East Berlin under the name Hansel, her encounter with an American soldier who, after a botched operation, agrees to marry her and then abandons her, her decision to over-feminize herself following her not-so-chosen gender change, and the creation of her rock band.
The French adaptation reveals the scathing accuracy, queer humor and trashy extravagance of a quasi-monologue. In the title role, Brice Hillairet creates a dazzling, intense and moving Hedwig.
