Description
Hosiery originated with the word bonnet, a knitted article par excellence. By extension, hosiery refers to the knitwear family, from socks to sweaters. The textile industry has sustained the town of Moreuil and the Santerre region for almost 300 years, from the Bouly factory created in 1830, to the Bomo factory closed in 1968. Today, the Malterre company continues to perpetuate this exceptional know-how.
An exceptional collection of over a hundred looms and sewing machines has been assembled to explain the evolution of this expertise. Former textile workers, now retired, will give demonstrations on the old badestamiers used to make stockings, sock looms and flat and circular knitting machines.
