These were the words of one of the privileged spectators who attended the premiere of The Creation? Die Schöpfung, on April 30, 1798 in Vienna. Since then, Haydn?s oratorio has never ceased to enthrall audiences everywhere.
A vocal and symphonic poem recounting the first six days of Genesis, this is not religious music! Arias, recitatives, choruses and orchestra vie with each other in enchanting images to celebrate the birth of nature and all its elements, in a work of breathtaking visionary power.
