Flixecourt had three mills, including one for oil production and two windmills for flour production. In the early 19th century, merchants from Amiens acquired the mills to set up the first textile factories. The 20th century saw the end of milling in the Somme Valley. The Basile de Flixecourt mill gradually fell into ruin. In 2016-2017, the commune decided to restore the mill to its original state, in collaboration with architects. Since then, the building has regained its original architecture and charm.
The Basile mill invites you to enjoy a unique tourist experience in the Nièvre and Somme regions. Enter the mill garden and search for the QR codes that will take you to the treasures of our region?s history and heritage. Then enter the mill through the south gate. Surprises await you.
