Danse : Occupation 2
Show No.
About
Cuban dancer and choreographer Lazaro Benitez, who now lives between Marseilles and Bogotá, defends the idea of committed dance. In 2023, at the invitation of the Festival d?Avignon, he choreographed Occupation, a short show inspired by the tragic expulsion of an entire village in Colombia to make way for a coal-mining company. To the sound of vallento, a musical genre from the Colombian Caribbean, this creation entitled Occupation realistically relates the violence of this forced uprooting faced by many inhabitants of South America. Occupation 2 offers a more advanced interpretation of this event. Carried by five performers and a musician, Lazaro Benitez?s dance, which questions our world, opens our eyes and rallies us to his cause.
